Tweetdeck, one of the most popular Twitter clients, has raised $2 million in a previously undisclosed round of funding, according to angel investor John Borthwick. He revealed the funding at TechCrunch’s Real-Time Stream CrunchUp, during a panel discussion bewteen Michael Arrington, and investor Ron Conway.

Tweetdeck, which recently launched a TechCrunch-branded version, raised a small round of angel funding in January, estimated at $300,000. TweetDeck is available for Mac, Windows and Linux, it just requires Adobe AIR. The company has been working on getting more services integrated into its client. Last week, it launched an iPhone app that has been gaining popularity quickly.

He said he’d be back, he’s allegedly been spotted at Apple’s Cupertino campus, and Woz thinks he sounds fine. Now the WSJ is saying Steve Jobs—after nearly ’starving to death’—might make it back in time for WWDC.

Yes, this is a Wall Street Journal report, but no, it’s not at all official; in fact, it’s classic Apple rumor:

Two people who do business with Apple said senior Apple managers have told them the company is now trying to coordinate Mr. Jobs’s return with a product launch or public event.

The statements of these ‘people who do business’ with Apple are then supplemented with some info about the new iPhone, which Jobs may unveil, from ‘people who’ve seen the device’:

The new phone will look similar to last year’s model but has more processing power and some new features like video editing.

That side of the story has been more-or-less taken for granted by other publications for a while now—it’s the Jobs angle that matters here. It’s been a while since we’ve had a good Jobsnote, and even if Schiller and co. did pretty well on their own, I think we’re all ready for one. [WSJ]

Not to be outdone by the Nintendo press conference earlier today, Sony announced that it was making its portable console, the PSP, more girl-friendly. The company introduced a new Tybee Island Hannah Montana-branded version of the portable device.

The company also touched on a number of’ family friendly games for the device, including Petz and Rock Band Unplugged.

Best Buy employees find cash inside computer.

The
recession has many people going to great lengths to protect their money, but
apparently the bank and even the space underneath the mattress wasn’t good
enough for one St. Louis area resident.

Employees at a Best Buy store in South County discovered about $10,000 cash
inside a computer tower Monday night, St. Louis County police said.

Employees found the money inside a computer that had been dropped off for
repairs at the store at 7017 South Lindbergh Boulevard. Best Buy staffers
called police, who ran a background check on the owner and checked the serial
numbers on the bills stashed inside the tower.

A background check revealed nothing suspicious about the computer owner,
and the bills were not counterfeit or stolen, police said. The owner of the
computer — and the cash — was able to reclaim his money.

I wonder what’s the minimum amount of found cash that prompts a call to the
police?

And by September! At least, according to the Telegraph, who says that the company is working out the terms of a deal that will open up streaming for over 3,000 hours of American content, as well as content from Channel 4 and ITV. That the Hulu content wall will come down is obviously great news, but that ITV and 4 will finally be moving to a decent VOD solution is exciting in its own right. [Telegraph]

It certainly wasn’t a long time coming. A billion app downloads is certainly something to shout about, and getting that achievement done in just 9 months makes it even more special. Of course, the success of the App Store is also due to the success of the iPhone, and vice versa, which is certainly a win-win situation for Apple. Considering that there are over 35,000 apps in the App Store now, it looks like the figures are just going to keep going up and up.

Sensational Alex Harvey Band – Boston Tea Party

No, it is not April Fools day – yet. The British government is proposing that Twitter be taught in elementary schools as part of a wider push to make online communication and social media a permanent part of the UK’s education system.

And that’s not all. Kids will be taught blogging, podcasting and how to use Wikipedia alongside Maths, English and Science. The draft plans were due to be published next month, but have leaked early.

Children will also learn ‘fluency’ in keyboard skills, and how to use a spellchecker. Luckily they will still be taught how to spell themselves, rather than rely on Mr Clippy.
